WinterPlace Projects, established in 2011, is the business name under which I am now operating. I am continuing the activities undertaken since 2004 as an independant curator, researcher, and consultant. These generally are in arts, culture and heritage, and most recently have extended into book production in those areas.

Though based in St. John's, NL, I also have a working base in Ottawa, ON.

Projects are self-generated or undertaken as contracts to organizations. I also am interested in partnering with like-minded colleagues to explore new possibilities for development. Depending on the project, I work alone or with others who bring additional skills, resources and experience to the task. An example is the collaboration with Vessela Brakalova of Vis-a-Vis Graphics, designer of WinterPlace Projects' first book, published in November 2011, City Seen: Artists' Views of St. John's 1785-2010 (See New Book).

Education and professional experience have shaped my work interests: degrees in journalism, visual arts, a Master of Philosophy in Humanities, in addition to extensive museum studies; and over 25 years of work in Canadian museums, principally in Newfoundland and Labrador. This included over 20 years as Director and Chief Curator, Memorial University Art Gallery (later known as Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador) and national board involvement with The Canada Council, and other cultural organizations.

Clients have included Beaverbrook Art Gallery, The Rooms Provincial Gallery, Ten Days on the Island Arts Festival, Tasmania, Australia, Gros Morne National Park, City of Ottawa, The Portrait Gallery of Canada (Library Archives Canada). On-going is art historical research through The National Gallery of Canada Research Fellowship, on connections between geology and Canadian landscape art 1800-2000.
